Information processed when you use the site

Location searches

When you type into the location search, the search text is sent to our search service so it can return place suggestions. Selecting a result places its coordinates and label in the page URL. Avoid entering names or other personal information that is not needed for a location search.

Technical information

Our hosting and security providers may process standard request data, such as IP address, browser and device information, requested URL, time, response status and security signals. This is used to deliver, secure, diagnose and improve the reliability of the service.

Messages you send us

If you email us, we process your email address and the contents of your message to respond and keep an appropriate record of the conversation.

Cookies and analytics

We do not currently use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking or a user analytics product. Essential infrastructure may use short-lived technical mechanisms needed for security and delivery. If analytics or non-essential cookies are introduced, this notice and any required consent controls will be updated first.

Why and how long we process information

Technical data is processed where necessary to provide and secure the service and to pursue the legitimate interest of operating a reliable public website. Correspondence is processed to answer your request. Records are kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes, security, dispute handling and legal obligations.

Service providers and transfers

The site, map tiles and search endpoints use service providers that process data on our behalf, including Cloudflare for hosting, content delivery and security. A provider may process data in countries outside the UK under its contractual transfer safeguards.

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose limited information if required by law or when necessary to protect the service and its users.

Your choices and rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal information, and to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
