Using this website

The site is designed so that you can:

  • zoom the page without text becoming unreadable;
  • navigate search, links and layer switches with a keyboard;
  • see a visible keyboard focus indicator;
  • use labelled controls and semantic headings;
  • reduce non-essential motion using your device preference; and
  • read the data explanation and limitations without using the map.

Known limitations

The geographic flood polygons are rendered on an interactive canvas and do not currently have an equivalent text description for every location. Screen-reader users cannot inspect each polygon directly. Some map gestures and third-party map controls may also be harder to use with assistive technology.

Location search requires JavaScript, and the current service does not offer a non-map results table. Colour is paired with written risk-band labels in the controls, but the shaded geographic shapes remain a visual presentation.

Alternative ways to get information

The data page explains the layers and links to the official government long-term flood-risk service. If you need information in a different format, email hello@floodriskmap.co.uk and describe the location and format you need. We will consider what we can reasonably provide.

Reporting an accessibility problem

Email hello@floodriskmap.co.uk with the page, device, browser and assistive technology involved. We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports promptly, although a formal response time has not yet been set.

Assessment status

This statement is based on an internal review of the current website. A full independent WCAG audit has not yet been completed, so we do not claim full conformance. The statement will be updated after material interface changes or a formal audit.
